LEARNING THE LESSONS OF HISTORY IN PLANNING SYDNEY’S RAIL SYSTEM

I spent some time yesterday looking back at the origins of the debate about Sydney Trains Network versus the so-called ‘metro” vision of the current LNP government in NSW, led by Gladys Berejiklin.

Gavin Gatenby produced an excellent informative video on 4-feb-2013 called “Unfit for Purpose”. Despite being 6+ years ago, and incorporating some labels that have long since been replaced the underlying arguments are still very relevant as we advocate for saving the T3 Bankstown Line from being bastardised and downgraded to become part of Gladys and Andrew Constance “metro” wet dream!

To quote Gavin’s closing words in the video; “So let’s not . sacrifice the potential of what is actually a world class suburban rail system, on the alter of a privatised rail fantasy!”
