Dharawal Line

Updated September 2024

  • Western Sydney Airport to Campbelltown (Sydney Trains passenger services)
  • Western Sydney Airport to Leppington (Sydney Trains passenger services)
  • Freight rail line from Kingswood to Macarthur

EcoTransit notes the Sydney Metro for Western Sydney Airport between St Marys and Aerotropolis (and future extension to Schofields) is a 3 carriage metro service incompatible with existing trains and metro (including Sydney Metro Northwest).

New Sydney Trains station needed at Western Sydney Airport International Terminal Station

EcoTransit calls for an additional Western Sydney Airport International Terminal train station and Aerotropolis train station for Sydney Trains Network services either underground or above ground.

Sydney Trains cannot share Sydney Metro tunnels or tracks. The Sydney Metro Western Sydney Airport line has only been constructed for 3 carriage metro services which cannot fit the Sydney Trains double-deck 8 carriage services.

EcoTransit opposes the extension of Sydney Metro from Aerotropolis to Leppington and Campbelltown/Macarthur.

Regarding Liverpool City Council and Transport for NSW proposals for rapid buses between Western Sydney Airport and Liverpool via Fifteenth Avenue Smart Transit (FAST), EcoTransit prefers the upgrading of the FAST corridor into light rail in conjunction with the T80 bus converted into light rail. Read more about EcoTransit’s proposal for light rail from Western Sydney Airport and Aerotropolis to Liverpool.

EcoTransit has appeared as witnesses at multiple Parliamentary Inquiries in transport for the Western Sydney Airport and Aerotropolis precincts.
